Final Roster Projection for the Washington Redskins

Washington Redskins

After a disappointing loss to the Denver Broncos, the Washington Redskins came out of the game relatively unscathed as far as injuries are concerned. Now going into the final preseason game versus the Baltimore Ravens with the starters resting, position battles for to make the final 53 players on the roster will be in full effect. Here is the roster I believe the Redskins will go with on Saturday.

Quarterback- Alex Smith, Colt McCoy

Both starter Alex Smith and backup Colt McCoy both had not so good games on Friday. Third string Kevin Hogan came in and led the team to two late touchdowns in his best showing so far. The Redskins also signed Conner Jessop as well however I believe Jessop is competing Hogan for a practice squad spot.

Running Back- Adrian Peterson, Chris Thompson, Rob Kelley, Kapri Bibbs, Samaje Perine

Adrian Peterson showed that he has a lot left in the tank and seems to make the team. With Perine coming back healthy this week that leaves the final competition between Bibbs and Bryon Marshall. Marshall is the better special teamer and Bibbs is the better between tackle back. I am leaning towards five running backs on the roster.

Wide Receiver- Josh Doctson, Paul Richardson, Jamison Crowder, Maurice Harris, Trey Quinn, Cam Sims

The starting receivers played Friday and did not do much. Crowder did not play while Quinn took all of the slot reps. The sixth spot battle is still between Cam Sims and Brian Quick. The team likes them both but Sims seems to have far more potential and is younger. I believe that gives him the edge.

Tight Ends- Jordan Reed, Vernon Davis, Jeremy Sprinkle

No change this week. Pretty locked in stone.

Offensive Line- Trent Williams, Shawn Lauvao, Chase Roullier, Brandon Scherff, Morgan Moses, Ty Nsekhe, Geron Christian, Tyler Catalina, Tony Bergstrom

No change here and unless injuries occur this will stay locked in.

Defensive Line- Jonathan Allen, Da’Ron Payne, Ziggy Hood, Anthony Lanier, Matt Ioannidis, Tim Settle

This group is pretty much locked in now.

Linebackers- Ryan Kerrigan, Preston Smith, Zach Brown, Mason Foster, Zach Vigil, Ryan Anderson, Pernell McPhee, Josh Harvey-Clemons, Shaun Dion-Hamilton

To add another running back I have taken off a linebacker. This is will be the hardest cutdown on the roster. Shaun Dion-Hamilton is solidly moved into the backup role of the mike linebacker, but that leaves Maurice Spaight off. I believe Spaight can still make this roster so this will be interesting to see on Thursday. Pete Robinson and Ryan Anderson are fighting for a spot as well.

Cornerbacks- Josh Norman, Quinton Dunbar, Fabian Moreau, Greg Stroman, Adonnis Alexander, Danny Johnson

This six is locked in. Ranthony Texada played well however he is still on the outside looking in.

Safeties- DJ Swearinger, Montae Nicholson, Deshazor Everette, Troy Apke

Troy Apke had a rookie game on Friday with two huge missed tackles. That was the opening Fish Smithson needed. However Apke definitely has the upper hand.

Specialists- K Dustin Hopkins, P Tress Way, LS Nick Sundberg

Group is locked in.

Offense- 25

Defense- 25

Special Teams- 3
