This Sunday marks the 30th anniversary of the Survivor Series pay-per-view it will be live from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The last pay-per-view that was held in Toronto was 10 years ago Unforgiven 2006. I will provide my thoughts and my predictions for the entire card. This year for Survivor Series, I love the emphasis on the brand supremacy to see which brand is better since the brand split.
Cruiserweight Championship
Kalisto against The Brian Kendrick
The stakes don’t get any higher than when SmackDown’s own Kalisto challenges Raw’s Cruiserweight Champion The Brian Kendrick at Survivor Series on Sunday, Nov. 20.There is an added stipulation if Kalisto was able to pick up the win not only would he win the Cruiserweight Championship, but the entire Cruiserweight division will shift to the SmackDown brand.
I expect this to be a good match between these two high flying cruiserweights. This is a difficult match to predict because it is a tossup and it can go either way. I envision that Kalisto will pull off the massive upset victory, he will be crowned the new Cruiserweight Champion and SmackDown will be the new home for the Cruiserweights.
Intercontinental Championship
Sami Zayn vs. The Miz
It was originally scheduled to be Dolph Ziggler against Sami Zayn for the Intercontinental Championship. However, the Miz had different plans because he had the opportunity to challenge Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship. This match took place on this past SmackDown which was historic because it was the 900th episode. The Miz stole the spotlight from Dolph Ziggler and he took back his precious Intercontinental Championship.
Sami Zayn won the right to face The Miz at Survivor Series after he defeated Rusev in a hard-fought battle on Raw. Ever since Sami Zayn arrival to RAW from NXT he has been lost and in the shadow of Kevin Owens. Zayn will have a chance to win his first WWE championship, while also scoring a major win for the Raw brand by bringing the Intercontinental championship over to RAW if he is successful. That being said The Miz just won the Intercontinental Championship on Tuesday so I just don’t see The Miz dropping the title to Zayn anytime soon.
10-on-10 traditional Survivor Series Tag Team elimination match
The ten best tag teams will be representing both the RAW and SmackDown brands. The ten participants that will battle for RAW will be the Raw WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day will lead Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, Sheamus and Cesaro, Enzo Amore and Big Cass and The Shining Stars.
The SmackDown brand will counter with their SmackDown Tag Team Champions Heath Slater and Rhyno, The Usos, American Alpha, The Hype Bros and Breezango. The action will be so chaotic in this match because of the number of tag teams that are involved. SmackDown might look to have a weaker squad but they will pull off the massive upset against team RAW.
Team Raw vs. Team SmackDown in a 5-on-5 traditional Survivor Series Women’s elimination match
The women division has never been better in the WWE since the Women’s Revolution due to all this incredible talent. This will be a fantastic match up and will showcase the best women talent from both brands. Team Raw will be lead by Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair; it also features Flair’s bitter rival, Sasha Banks, plus Bayley, Nia Jax, and Alicia Fox. It will be very interesting how these women on RAW will get along because a couple of members on the team currently have issues.
SmackDown will be represented by team captain Nikki Bella, SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch, Alexa Bliss, Naomi, and Carmella. This team also has members that have issues with each other. The key to either team winning is putting their differences aside in order for the greater good. There are wild card factors for each team Nia Jax is one of them for RAW and Alexa Bliss is another for her team.
There will be a moment in the match where Charlotte, Sasha Banks Bayley, and Becky Lynch will be in the ring together. This will be a close match up but the women on RAW will put the differences aside and they will be too much for SmackDown to handle.
Team Raw vs. Team SmackDown in a 5-on-5 traditional Survivor Series Men’s elimination match
I am very intrigued about this traditional five on five Survivor Series match will feature Team Raw against Team SmackDown. Representing Team RAW will be WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens, United States Champion Roman Reigns Chris Jericho, Braun Strowman, and Seth Rollins.
SmackDown has only one champion on their team they have a very deep team that the fans are sleeping on. The team will be lead by WWE World Champion AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose, Bray Wyatt Randy Orton, and finally, Shane McMahon as he took the final spot as Baron Corbin suffered an injury against a returning Kalisto. Shane McMahon named that James Ellsworth will be SmackDown official “mascot” heading into Survivor Series.
This match will be an instant classic and both teams will bring the very best out of each other for bragging rights. The unlikely RAW team will work together as a cohesive unit that will win the match to prove to SmackDown that the RAW is the more dominate team. Shane McMahon will be the one individual that will solely be responsible for SmackDown losing the match.
Fantasy Warfare
Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar
I am very skeptical and excited for this main event at the same time. Goldberg will finally make his WWE return after 12 years but he has to be careful what he wishes for. At WrestleMania 20 that match had the potential to be the greatest WrestleMania of all-time it was an ultimate disaster. However, at the time both Goldberg and Lesnar weren’t there mentally.
Goldberg will be in the latest WWE 2K17 video game as a playable character. WWE teased the possibility of Brock Lesnar against Lesnar in a WWE, in the WWE 2K17 commercial. Goldberg was arrested and he saw in his window, a reflection of a sign of Suplex City. The build-up to this match has been lackluster since the WWE announced this match. This past RAW involved a face to face confrontation between Lesnar and Goldberg. Overall I was not impressed with that segment because it was weak.
My expectations for this match are extremely low because I don’t know what to expect out of either man. I just want this match to be fifteen minutes nothing more. There is a possibility where the fans can ruin the match just like they did at WrestleMania 20. The winner of this match is obviously because all the money is on Brock Lesnar. He needs to even up the score ever since he lost to Goldberg at WrestleMania 20. Lesnar taking a loss would be pointless because of the build over the four years.
